Internship at MANNA
Diana Fischmann, a MANNA nutrition department intern from LaSalle University, conducted a brief utilization survey with area healthcare providers. The project was designed to discover which MANNA services are valued and accessed, and how MANNA can better serve their practice and patients.
Questionnaires were mailed to approximately 215 physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the greater Philadelphia area. As of November 10th, only 33 questionnaires (approximately 15%) were returned to MANNA and analyzed. Out of all 33 respondents, only one was unfamiliar with MANNA.
It is unfortunate that we were not able to learn more from the providers who are unfamiliar with MANNA and have not referred clients. MANNA offers a free service aimed at improving health through the power of nutrition--the more healthcare providers who are aware of the services MANNA provides, the more people coping with life-threatening illnesses we can help.
Megan Koscil, dietetic student at La Salle University, exhibited her poster entitled "MANNA in the Spotlight at the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association's Annual Continuing Education Event. The event is attended by hundreds of dietetic practitioners from across the state.
Megan finished her internship at MANNA in the Nutrition & Client Services Department and expects to graduated from La Salle University. During Megan's time at MANNA, she created several nutrition education tools and helped with organization and research of program initiatives.
